Evangelization Meeting – July 17, 2006

Present: Dave Fuente, Janet Fuente, Jack McLauglin, Colleen Amoroso, Dolores DiLeone, Jeannette Brennan, Carolyn Morris, Terry Morris, Marge Mihoci, Gayle Miragliotta, Jim Miragliotta, Kay Thomson, Jerry Bowers and Kim Nestelle

Dave Fuente led the group in prayer to open the meeting.

Dave expressed his thanks for all those who helped after the Masses to get volunteers to distribute the posters.  He mentioned that there were six routes and several churches left yet that the Evangelization Committee would take responsibility for.

Along with Stewardship, the Evangelization committee is collecting money to put together a basket for the Senior Citizens Chinese Raffle.  Barb Sekerak will put the basket together.  The basket will include coupons for a car wash, gas and oil change.

Dave attended the meeting for the International Festival and learned two ministries are free for the event, Pro-life and Evangelization.  Therefore, armed with a list of volunteers, we will be working the 50-50 raffle.  No one should have to work more than a few hours each day.

In response to a letter from Father Dave, the Evangelization committee is committing to one hour per week in the Adoration chapel.  We chose the 4-5 AM slot every Wednesday.  Jerry Bowers will co-ordinate the scheduling.

The next meeting date with St. Peter’s is August 28th.  Dave will get a room at the Bell Tower.  St. Peter’s has asked for our help in organizing a walk for their parish.  Jack and Jeannette are putting the notes together that they used to run the training sessions for St. John Bosco’s walk.

Janet suggested a fun day for the committee.  She had a flyer announcing the date and all the activities for the Catholic Family Festival on Sunday, August 6th from 3-10 PM.  It is free to get in and would be a nice activity.  Delores also talked about a mini-retreat given by Father Simon Endler this Saturday, July 22nd, at St. Henry’s.

Into the Future---as Dave calls the 5000 list; the list showing parishioners on the parish roster but do not attend.  We would like to brainstorm with Father on how best to approach these folks.  Jim asked the question, would it be possible, either verbally or in print, determine if these folks attend church, and if they do not, the reason why.  Due to privacy concerns, we are not allowed to ask those specific questions.  Several suggestions to present to Father are:

-         call these folks on the telephone saying we are updating the church records

-         the need to have a script to follow when calling folks

-         if no response by telephone, follow up by visiting their homes

The final decision is Father Dave’s.

We talked about the upcoming project, Vibrant Parish Life, during open discussion.  Jerry Bowers emphasized the need to read all three articles that have been published in the bulletin the last three weeks.  We need to educate ourselves in the process.  It is the future of our parish.

Jerry Bowers closed the meeting with a prayer.
