Minutes of March 13, 2007

Messrs. Mark Palko and Dan Sage have been appointed to the council. Both are school parents.
School Registration
Currently we have 243 students for the 07 – 08 school year. Several others are awaiting the outcome of the diocesan financial aid program. To date 7 children from the daycare have registered for kindergarten and at least 4 more are expected. Our target enrollment (K- 8) would be about 260 students.
Spanish Language Program
The School Advisory Committee has recommended implementation.
There will be no increased fees for this program. We are exploring the use of a part-time teacher or a contract with a language training company.
Junior High Faculty
This year we have four junior high classes and four teachers. Next year there will be three classes since we only have one class for each grade. There will be 93 students next year verses the 104 this years. While it would appear that we have an extra teacher in the junior high, there would be a degradation of education by eliminating that teacher. Since each teacher has a specific field to teach, the coverage on the curriculum would be reduced as the three teachers picked up subjects of the fourth teacher.
A major area of concern by parents has been in the Math program even though we get good reports from the high schools about our graduate’s math ability. With the increased concentration on Math in high school and college, we cannot diminish our coverage of that subject. The fourth teacher will be continued for 07 – 08.
Roof Repairs
An insurance claim has been filed for the damages incurred by the February leakage. We have a $1,000 deductible on the claim and the diocese will cover the remaining costs. The flood was caused by snow build-up on the air conditioning ducts and subsequent leakage into the ductwork. The ducts have been wrapped and new heavy rubber tape is being added to the roof joints. Additional rains will be installed in the spring.
The next priority is the maintenance and repair of the sacristy and rectory roofs. The initial costs will come from the church endowment fund and will be reimbursed by the festival funds.
New Bingo Machine
The purchase of a new Bingo machine was approved at a cost of $8,000. The existing boards, sound and video systems are compatible.
Contracts were approved for Husney (landscape and irrigation) and Lawnco (fertilization).
Bell Tower Management
The management of the Bell Tower catering function needs to be addressed. We are receiving inquiries about the hall but must defer them since we do not have a manager at the present time. Since we have several parties interested in running the catering function, they will be asked to submit proposals for various aspects of the operation.
Weekly Offertory Report
A proposed format for this report was presented and it will begin in the April bulletin. Since the bulletin is sent for printing before the collection count is completed, the report will lag behind one week.
Festival Planning
The initial meetings should begin the second week in April.
The recent losses of two people from the maintenance staff and the loss of the night security man indicate need for a night maintenance person. This person would perform maintenance from late afternoon until the activities center closing time. We cannot continue to pay overtime hours for this function.
