School Renovation The renovation has been completed on schedule and passed the inspection by the state on September 18th and the move of students was completed on September 19th. The reaction of the parents has been highly favorable. The Web-cameras still remain to be installed.
Roof Repairs The major work the school and activities center near the Cloister has been completed. During the repair a pocket of water build-up was found in the ceiling near the confessionals. This is being drained now.
Further inspection of the roofs indicated that additional repairs would be required. The area over the sacristy is forming water pockets on the surface and not allowing the existing drains to remove it. This roof was replaced in 1982 and will need a total replacement (tear-off) by spring. The rectory roof was replaced in 1983 and needs repair before the winter snowfalls. Estimates have been requested. In the long range budget funds need to be reserved for the roof over the main activities center. The asphalt shingles are starting to show wear.
Daycare Cleaning Proposals to clean the day care area daily were reviewed. The selected proposal needs some minor refinement but the cleaning is underway.
Stewardship Treasure Renewal Last year, Marty, Jr. presented our appeal at each Mass. The result was about 350 responses from the 1900 letters mailed to the parishioners producing a $17,000 (1,8%) increase in the collections for the current fiscal year. After discussion, it was decided that a more passive and less costly (mail costs) approach would be tried this year. Appeal packets (about 700) will be prepared and made available at the doors of the church in November. The bulletin and end-of-Mass announcements will encourage the parishioners to take packets and make a commitment. We may want council members available to pass out the packets.
Tuition Collection A number of families have not paid the first semester’s tuition. Follow-up letters from the school office have not been responded to as yet. Members of the council will conduct a more aggressive telephone campaign. Failure to pay could result in the students been removed from the school.
Wedding Receptions The ratio of receptions held at the Bell Tower to the number of weddings conducted is very low. Only 4 receptions were held this year. Al proposed preparing a packet that could be given to prospective couples when they arrange their wedding and counseling. Our prices are competitive with other party centers. Brochures are available and only the current price list would need to be added.
Next Finance Council meeting: Tuesday, November 14, at 7:00 p.m. in the Bell Tower unless a meeting is needed sooner. Tom Halloran Chair
