MINUTES OF MEETING St. John Bosco Pastoral Council March 28, 2006
The meeting began at 7:15 pm with a prayer led by Dan Zawadzki.
School Updates - Father DaveFather Dave announced the new principal would be Eileen Updegrove. He has been very impressed with her qualifications and feels she would be an excellent fit for the position. The library will be moving the last weekend in April. Father wants the renovations to be completed by the opening of school in August. There is a possibility we may be able to end our lease earlier at the Heritage Building representing a savings of $13,000 - $14,000 per month. The renovations to the school are projected to run between $120,000 - $125,000 -- not $75,000 as originally anticipated. There are approximately 285 children currently enrolled in school for the 2006-2007 school year. Enrollment is down 52% throughout the diocese since the 1980 statistics. The enrollment at Holy Family is approximately 240.
Vibrant Parish Life II (VPL II)- Father Dave Father Dave has reviewed the documentation associated with VPL II and stated that enhancements have been made to the project. Objectives are much more concrete with definite timeframes directed to complete each phase of the program. The program is not optional. It will be implemented throughout the diocese. Father Dave discussed portions of the detailed timeline and said the timeframe for instituting the entire program would be Lent 2006 – April 2007. Father John would like to be a part of the implementation and would like to start meetings in June. Father Dave asked if anyone was interested in being a part of the project. Richard Hahn, Kathy Jasany, Mary Kukich and Vicki Formanik volunteered.
Finance Council Updates from March 14, 2006 Meeting – Father Dave The minutes of the Finance Council meeting are posted on our website.
PTU/School- Mary Kukich Family Night Bingo will take place on April 4th. The installation of the new Executive Board will take place at the May 9th meeting, along with an ice cream social. Trish Scott will be the Farewell Coordinator for the faculty that will not be returning.
Family Life – Mike Mucic Family Life will be having a Garage Sale to be held May 13, 2006. Currently, fifteen tables have been sold. Setup will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the sale hours would be 9:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m. A covered area will be provided outside for large items. A truck will be available for unsold items to be donated.
PSR Updates – Cathy Brown Monday was the last night for PSR. There was a discussion concerning team teaching as well as acquiring more aides for next year. The possibility of purchasing new textbooks was also discussed.
RCI A_- Richard HahnRichard mentioned that there will be seven adults and five or six children at the Easter Vigil. Some candidates will be making their first reconciliation tonight. Five children will be making their first communion and six children will be confirmed.
Suggestions for New PC Members – Dan ZawadzkiDan mentioned that we are always looking for new members to reflect the parish assembly.
Other Issues and TopicsDan mentioned that he contacted Paula Stepanski; President of the PTU and the date tentatively scheduled for the Faculty Farewell is May 21st. Father Dave would like something special done to acknowledge the many years of dedicated service from our faculty. Jim suggested a plaque commemorating the Ursulines’ service. Father added he would also like to invite the past Ursulines to acknowledge their contributions as well. Sisters Ruth, Leticia, Gretchen, and Jane should all be invited. Dan will contact Barb Sekerak to have the Pastoral Council meetings added to the parish calendar.
