MINUTES OF MEETING

St. John Bosco Pastoral Council

May 22, 2007

-The meeting began at 7:15 p.m. with a prayer led by Dan.

-Welcome to our new parish council member, Teri Coury.

-Minutes of the April 24, 2007 meeting were approved.

-Father John’s farewell celebration was enjoyed by all. Each parish organization is to be commended for their input. Dan especially thanked Carol Mucic for her organization of the event. Videotapes will be available for $20.00 per copy.

School and Preschool Updates – Father Dave

-Enrollment for next school year is 245 students.

-The second eighth grade class will remain next school year.

-Spanish class will be added to the curriculum for next school year.

-Day care enrollment is good, approximately 100 children.

-Summer camp is full.

-Paula Stepanski will serve a third term as PTU president.

-Parish Council, with assistance from SAC, will continue to encourage further exploration of participation in academic clubs and competitions for the school.

VPL II – Father Dave

-Diocesan cluster meeting will be June 13. Representatives from St. John Bosco will be: Father Dave, Dan Zawadzki, Carol Polefko, Tom Halloran, and Marty Zannotti. A layout for scheduling and techniques for cluster parishes will be presented.

-Bishop Lennon required all parishes to complete two reports: a composite summary form, listing areas of vibrancy, challenge, and collaboration with other parishes, as well as a financial trends report. Both reports were approved by Parish Council.

Family Life Ministry – Dan

The group is currently looking for new members as well as funding options.

PSR Updates – Richard Hahn

-PSR concluded May 7.

-First Holy Communion will be incorporated into the Sunday liturgies next school year, giving the entire parish the opportunity to share in the celebration. Dates and mass times will be decided soon.

Doughnut Sunday Updates – Kathy Jasany

-Next Doughnut Sunday will be 6/3/07, sponsored by the Holy Name Society and Evangelization Committee. This is the last until October.

-PC will investigate selling grocery store certificates at future Donut Sundays to aid with tuition assistance.

International Festival – Father Dave

-Father Dave announced a booth captain meeting on June 4.

-Raffle tickets will be sent to parishioners earlier.

-Rides and tents are ordered, and most of the entertainment is lined up. Workers still need to be organized.

Future Events to be Planned/Celebrated – All

-A Silent Auction will be held the first Saturday in November, sponsored by the parish but run by the PTU.

Other Updates/Items for Discussion – All

-Father Dave informed the group that a long term agreement has been reached with Bruno DiSienna to run the Bell Tower.

-Parish Council is still in need of one or two new members. Please send Father Dave any suggestions.

-It was suggested that the Parish Council members from the four churches within our cluster get together for an informal meeting. Dan will suggest this at the June 13 diocesan meeting.

The meeting concluded at 8:25 p.m. with a prayer led by Father Dave.

The next Parish Council meeting will be June 26, 2007, at 7:00 p.m.
