Events for Lenten Season Father Dave
The Liturgies and Stations will be our highlights for this Season.
School and Preschool Updates Father Dave
-A school open house is scheduled for this Sunday, 1/28/07. The child care center and pre-school will also be open. Registration will be held in February.
-Inclusion of the day care center and pre-school to the lower level of the school has gone very well. Staff and families are very happy and feel closer to the community of St. John Bosco. This transition will hopefully serve as a better feeder for the SJB grade school. Father Dave feels very optimistic about the school.
-Tuition will remain the same for the 2007-2008 school year, but there will be an increase of $25.00 per student for the technology fee, with the hopes of building up a fund for future purchases. The computer equipment lease is up in August. We will be able to purchase all of the computer equipment for $1.00 per machine. The equipment we currently have is as good as anything on the market today.
-Parental feedback on our new principal, Mrs. Updegrove is very positive. She has an excellent reputation in the community, and greets all of the children each morning. The school is blossoming under her leadership.
-There is a possibility of adding Spanish classes to the school.
-The lease at the Heritage Building is up at the end of January. We are currently two months behind in payments, owing for December and January. The city of Parma Heights is interested in purchasing the Heritage Building to house the police department and jail. Vicki Formanik inquired of Father Dave, if there was ever a thought given to SJB selling some of the land in front of the church, or behind the Heritage Building. Father Dave feels this is not necessary, and that our financial situation is healthy. Once the lease payments are made, the only debt will be our diocesan assessment. The financial forecast for the parish is good.
VPL II Father Dave
The parish clustering decisions will be made by Bishop Lennon and distributed to the parishes by mid-February.
There could be larger clustering then first thought, possibly 4-5 parishes..
There will be some type of parish workshops for the clustered parishes to get adjusted to one another and share input..
Even though the cluster groups will be decided by the diocese, the parishes will choose which programs to combine.
Family Life Ministry Father Dave
A profit was not realized from the October event, consequently there are not funds available to sponsor a winter event.
There are a few couples doing a lot of jobs for this ministry.
PSR Updates Richard Hahn
Confirmation will take place on March 6, 2007.
Confirmation will not be an annual event, due to the sacrament being received in the second grade with First Communion.
Doughnut Sunday Updates Kathy Jasany
Next Doughnut Sunday will be 2/4/07, sponsored by the Ladies Guild and Little Rock Scripture. Mrs. Helen Flannick has been gracious enough to assist with Doughnut Sunday for the last several months, and has helped at each mass. What a wonderful expression of stewardship to our parish! Kathy will amend the procedures for Doughnut Sunday next year. With the passing of Al Barbenera, the purchase and pick up of doughnuts needs to be clarified. Attendance at this monthly event has been on the upswing, and enjoyed by many in our parish.
Future Events to be Planned/Celebrated All
-All members of the PCC are asked to give some thought to future events for the parish.
-John Powers suggested that we think about honoring Father John in some way, as he will be leaving St. John Bosco Parish, no later then June 5, 2007.
A reception and collection were suggested.
-Father Dave is celebrating his 25th anniversary as the pastor of SJB on Sunday, 1/28/07.
-Richard Hahn and his wife will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary at the 4:00 p.m. mass on February 3rd.
-Stewardship Committee has done a great job with the parish committee directory.
-The bingo program is in need of more volunteers. Now that smoking is prohibited, Father Dave hopes to get more people involved.
Other Updates/Items for Discussion Father Dave
-Due to the size of our parish, we do still qualify for two priests, so a replacement for Father John will be assigned.
-With the passing of Al Barbenera, Father Dave and the entire parish community are beginning to feel the impact his loss has left on our parish.
The parish finance council has decided to purchase new bingo equipment in memory of Al.
The old equipment, which is 20 years old, will be traded in for $500.00, and offset the $8,000.00 price for new equipment.
There are five major areas of concern that must be addressed because of Als vital role in these areas:
1) Bingo Coordinator - The parish has a major problem without a bingo coordinator. We must find someone, or possibly a small committee of dedicated volunteers, to fill this role. Bingo is extremely important to the financial well being of our parish and school.
2) Night Duties Jim Gutoskey and his crew are temporarily filling this duty.
3) St. Vincent DePaul Society George Getz and Dino Buttazzoni have agreed to fulfill these duties.
4) Fish Fries Nancy Palcisco will run the fish fries this year.
5) Bell Tower Catering Service There are three outside events scheduled for the Bell Tower so far this year. Al was just beginning to market the Bell Tower again before his passing. Father Dave is considering carpeting (except for the dance floor) and other remodeling to the Bell Tower. He is also considering leasing out the operations of the Bell Tower in hopes of generating better income for the parish.
-Funds earned from this years International Festival are earmarked for the continued repair and replacement of roofs on our buildings.
We are also working on a new telephone and networking system through Cox Cable.
-The meeting concluded at 8:20 p.m. with a prayer led by Father Dave.
-The next Parish Council meeting will be February 27, 2007, at 7:00 p.m.
