Meeting Minutes
St. John Bosco Pastoral Council
September 28, 2010
Present: Fr. Larry Jurcak, Fr. Bill Smith, Richard Hahn, Jack McLaughlin, Terry Morris, Larry Happy, Jan Bacher, Eleanor Spisak, John Powers, Chris Kall, Barbara Sekerak
Absent: Vicki Formanik
Fr. Jurcak opened the meeting with prayer at 7:03 PM.
The minutes from the June 22, 2010 meeting were approved by the council members.
Each council member introduced him/herself to Fr. Jurcak and a briefing on his/her involvement with the parish and parish council. This was followed by an introduction by Fr. Jurcak and his plans for leading the community of St. John Bosco. Father will hold three listening session for the parishioners for St. John Bosco, giving everyone a chance to tell Father what excites them about the parish.
Jack McLaughlin gave an overview of the New Beginnings project spearheaded by the Evangelization Ministry. Jan Bacher suggested that two or three ministries could work together on some of the issues presented in New Beginnings. Fr. Jurcak suggested the council members each have a copy of the booklet to review. The council will then form a task force to move forward with the project.
Jan Bacher gave us an update on the CD kiosk and also mentioned that the Spiritual Development committee will be conducting book review session on Matt Kelly’s book Rediscovering Catholicism. The sessions will be help in December and are open to all parishioners.
Doughnut Sunday updates – Parish Council will be the hosts for November. Please let Richard know what times you are available.
The following ministries gave updates on their ministry:
Jack McLaughlin - Evangelization - the group is planning for an Advent or Christmas handout
Barbara Sekerak – Stewardship – the 2010 Stewardship booklets are available. Please review your ministry and let Barbara know of any changes for 2011.
Terry Morris – Holy Name Society – HNS meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month. We would like to see an increase in membership.
Larry Happy – Charismatic Prayer Group - group meets on Friday evenings – we too would like to see an increase in membership.
Jan Bacher – Spiritual Development and Little Rock Scripture Study - Blue Books will be available in November.
Eleanor Spisak – Ladies Guild – the Ladies Guild will be hostess for Fr. Jurcak’s reception October 31, 2010. We are asking everyone to provide baked goods for the event. The Guild will also host the Anointing Mass reception scheduled for November 7, 2010.
Richard Hahn would like to see a Family Ministry again at SJB.
A discussion transpired on how many people should be on Parish Council and the term limits. It was suggested that there be twelve parishioners plus the pastor. We should follow the Diocesan guidelines for Parish Council.
Fr. Jurcak reviewed the procedures for his installation Mass and the Parish Council’s participation. He also asked that we be present at the Listening Sessions and volunteer as table leaders.
Fr. Bill Smith closed the meeting with a prayer at 9:00 PM.
The next meeting is scheduled for October 26, 2010
