ST. JOHN BOSCO PTU
BOARD MEETING
MARCH 11, 2008
Meeting was called to order at 7:08pm by Paula Stepanski, president.
Paula led the group in prayer
OPENING REMARKS:
Paula read a Thank You from Mrs. Lukcso.
Mrs. Lukcso has given the PTU a box of new books that were earned through a recent Market Day Drive. We will use the books in our Family Night Bingo gift bags.
Julie Gotro suggested donating any used library books to Archbishop Lyke school, where Sr. Jean is now.
Mrs. Updegrove shared a list of schools in the area that wear our plaid, to donate our used uniforms to. We agreed that St. Francis, in Cleveland, would be most in need.
Michelle Ramser suggested letting those families going to St. Charles next year be given a chance to purchase these uniforms first. They wear our plaid also. All agreed.
REPORTS FROM EXECUTIVE BOARD AND STANDING COMMITTEES:
MARY ANNE PALKO, 1ST VICE PRESIDENT:
Along with the 30 books from Market Day, Mrs. Updegrove gave left over gift cards from Catholic Schools Week to Renee Warren to also use as prizes.
Mary Anne offered to assist Renee with any details for Bingo.
The date set for Family Night Bingo is April 15, 2008 at 7:00pm. Doors will open at 6:30pm.
Paula will ask Mr. Seabrook to be our caller.
Renee asked if we will be charging admission.
Mary Anne added that even though we plan Family Night Bingo as a social event, we did make a small profit last year.
A $2 admission fee will be charged this year. Since the PTU did not have a fund raiser this year, we will use profits from Family Night Bingo to supplement the 8th Grade Scholarships.
Paula added that refreshments will be handled by Kim Ballash and Trish Scott.
Julie Gotro and another PTU member will collect the money at the door.
JUDY FILUT, COLLECTIVE FUND RAISING:
The Box Tops contest is finished. Giant Eagle points has ended. Judy asked what the school would like to do with our awarded items. Mrs. Updegrove will look at the choices and consider different options.
DEBBIE HANNAN, 2ND VICE PRESIDENT:
April 19th and May 17th will be our last two Market Days. She will share with the parish families, of four schools in the area that sell Market Day so they can continue to order. The Market Day representative may contact the parish to see if another SJB committee would like to take it over. The final profits will go towards the 8th Grade Scholarships.
Debbie reported that in 7 years of selling Market Day, SJB has earned $44,006.20 !!
MRS. UPDEGROVE, PRINCIPAL:
Should we do an evening night of the upcoming Talent show, or is the daytime performance enough? All agreed that an evening showtime would be appreciated by working parents as well as other family members that would like to come.
Should we still offer Summer Solutions as an optional tool for this summer? A Yes was decided.
Mrs. Updegrove asked for opinions and ideas for commemorating the closing of our school.
Mrs. Landino suggested a Sunday 11:30am Mass, followed by a “bring-your-own” picnic on the grounds.
A date of June 1st was tentatively chosen, upon approval by the rectory.
A mailing will go out to SJB alumni/graduates.
Paula Stepanski added that the 8th graders last day is June 6th , graduation is June 9th.
We will have their “clap-out” on Friday, June 6th .
For the rest of the student body, we will have an all-school clap out on their last day.
Starting with the younger grades, with the 7th graders to go last.
Mrs. Updegrove was offered the remaining new/already printed gym clothes from our clothing company at a reasonable cost. She will set up a table and sell it as spirit/souvenir clothing.
Mrs. Updegrove suggested saving the Inflatables reward until the picnic.
PAULA STEPANSKI, PRESIDENT:
We will pick a night in May to collect old PTU folders. We will decide at that time what to do with all of the past records. Paula will check with Fr. Dave to see if he has any preferences.
Our last meeting will be a social gathering. Spouses will be invited. Will be held off-site.
Michelle Ramser asked if anything was being done for the SJB teachers.
Mention of a possible Casino Night was being considered as a benefit.
Paula suggested that the last school Mass be themed “Go Light Your World”.
Mary Anne Palko suggested that we use glow sticks as “candles” for the Mass.
Mary Anne Palko brought up the idea of possibly having the family picnic at a local park, etc.
All classes will have their own end of the year picnics.
Mrs. Updegrove brought up the idea of a balloon launch that was previously suggested.
That idea was put on hold as of now. Other ideas are being considered. Mrs. Updegrove asked that if any board member comes up with additional ideas, to please give her a call.
Next meeting will be Tuesday, April 22nd to discuss outcome of Family Night Bingo.
Our May Social meeting will be Friday, May 16th ; time to be decided.
A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Mary Landino.
