RENEE WARREN, SCHOOL PROGRAMS:

Cosi on Wheels will be coming in April.  Set up will be Tuesday, April 24th in the evening.

The program will be Wednesday, April 25th.

After review of the program by SJB staff, it was decided by the staff, that the program would not be as effective for the Jr. High students.

Therefore,  the participants would be grades Pre-K, through 6.

No new forms need to be filled out, and a note will be sent home with the students to inform them of the date.

PAULA STEPANSKI, PRESIDENT:

The SJB bowling league is over.  It went great.  Paula will suggest allowing the Jr. High to continue to participate in the future.

PTU will continue to sponsor the bowling program.

Our International Festival plans are already underway.

PTU has changed it’s booth sponsorship this year from Crazy Ball to the Salami Booth.

PTU will underwrite the cost of the Salamis, approximately $200.

8th Grade PTU Scholarship forms went home this week for those 8th graders continuing on to Catholic High Schools.  Debbie Hannan and Gayle Dubovec have agreed to do the PTU section of the judging.

Family Night Bingo, on Tuesday, April 17th will also serve as our monthly meeting that month.

PTU usually sponsors an Ice Cream Social in May.

The last 2 years we have used the same magician as entertainment.

If anyone has ideas for different entertainment this year, let Paula know.

We will have an additional board meeting in that month, to discuss end-of-the-year business.

PRINCIPAL REPORT, (EILEEN UPDEGROVE):

Report given by Paula Stepanski:

Details are being worked out for a possible Hot Lunch Program for next year.

Members of the SAC will visit other nearby schools to examine their programs.

SAC fund raisers next year: Possibly go back to the $1 candy bars.

Considering the variety box type candy also.

A decision will be made soon, if Spanish will be part of the regular SJB curriculum next year.

Students in grades K-8 would receive Spanish instructions once a week.

The school day would start earlier.  An outside instructor would be brought in to run the program.

The Smart Boards are being mounted on the chalkboard areas, and the cameras on the ceilings of the classrooms.

This will free up much needed space in the rooms.

Iowa testing began this week.

The Book Fair was another success, even though it was not advertised as much .

Renee Warren added that the library reached it’s goal to earn the cash as a reward.

Gayle Dubovec added a suggestion of giving a monetary gift to the library fund at the end of the school year, to continue as in the past years.

Another suggestion was made to include gifts to the Art Department and Gym also.

Renee Warren suggested we purchase some much needed playground balls for the students.

Debbie Hannan added that playground balls are always needed, especially since the balls need to be of a soft material for safety purposes, (“Nerf”, etc..), and are used by so many students, that they wear out quickly.

Mary Ann Palko suggested inquiring about PTU purchasing some permanently mounted basketball hoops, since the students are permanently recessing in the top parking lot.

Julie Gotro added that even parking lot paintings of the United States and other educational ideas could be educational and fun.  A suggestion was made to possibly have the Art Department help with these ideas.

Paula Stepanski added that she would present all of our ideas to Mrs. Updegrove, and PTU will vote on any purchases allowed at our May meeting.

The students will participate in the American Red Cross Blood Drive Assembly this Thursday.

This will help promote the blood drive in April.

The students will help organize the donors, and work the desk area and canteen, etc...

A Virtus secession will be available at SJB on March 26th from 6:30-9:30pm.

Spring pictures will possibly be discontinued for next year.  Only one set of pictures will be taken, in the fall.

Yearbook orders are now due.

The yearbook staff is exploring the possibility of having an “all color” yearbook next year.

Since the cost would go up, they will send a survey home to families to see if they would prefer the more expensive color yearbook  or the standard black & white.

Mary Landino suggested to inform families in the survey that 2 sets of student pictures will not be taken next year, and since they wouldn’t have that extra expense, maybe they wouldn’t mind paying a little extra for a color yearbook.

Report cards go home March 29th.

The new Student Choir performed at the family Mass March 4th

PTU will sponsor the family Mass in April, which happens to be Palm Sunday.

The students will not have to read the Passion, but will be responsible for everything else.

The Third Graders will perform the Stations of the Cross on Holy Thursday at 12:45pm.

April 19th will be the Kindergarten Screening.  Volunteers will be needed.

Current registration for next year is 242.  SJB will graduate 37 8th Graders this year.

This is the last year for two 8th Grade classes.

We have 22 Kindergartners registered so far, which is great. A few families are moving, & a few are having financial difficulties.

Julie Gotro asked if financial assistance is available for those in need.  Do we still have an “Angel” fund?  Paula will ask Mrs. Updegrove.

Gayle Dubovec asked if PTU will purchase an add and sponsor a race for the Night at the Races April 21st

Paula answered yes.  A unanimous decision was reached.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Renee Warren.

The motion was seconded by Mary Landino.

Meeting adjourned at 7:58 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

April Harrigal, Secretary
