ST. JOHN BOSCO PTU
BOARD MEETING MAY 16, 2006 Meeting was called to order at 7:05pm, by Paula Stepanski, President.
Theresa Kravanis led the group in prayer.
Theresa expressed her sadness in finishing her term as our Spiritual Enrichment member, but shared with the group her joyous news of their 4th pregnancy!
Reading of the March, 2006 Minutes, by April Harrigal.
The Executive Board and Committee Members went around the room and
introduced themselves to our new incoming SJB Principal, Eileen Updagrove,
who was in attendance.
Ms. Updagrove expressed her thanks for inviting her to the meeting, and is looking forward to an exciting new school year.
REPORTS FROM EXECUTIVE BOARD AND STANDING COMMITTEES:
GAYLE DUBOVEC, TREASURER:
Gayle didn’t have the exact balance on hand, but noted that there was sufficient funds to cover the 8th Grade Scholarships as well as the 8th Grade Graduation gifts, and the remaining year-end events.
MARY ANN PALKO, 1ST VICE PRESIDENT:
The May General meeting with the magician went very well. 110 people in attendance. The winners of the evening included: $50 Tuition Reimbursement - Alaina Murphy (in attendance), Gr. 2 Spring Basket - Gabrielle Kelly, Gr. 2 50/50 Split Raffle ($26) David Donafrio The winners of the class with the most in attendance was a tie between Mrs. Early’s Kindergarten class and Miss Manciulea’s 6th Grade class. Both classes will receive a treat.
GINNY HEFFNER & LINDA SIMON, 2ND VICE PRESIDENTS:
Report given by Ginny Heffner; May Market Day profit was around $470. June 10th is the next Market Day pick up. The 2nd Annual Flower Sale did well, bringing in just under $300. Thank You to everyone who helped with delivery and the picking up process of the flowers.
DEBBIE HANNAN, CORRESPONDING SECRETARY:
Please have your committee newsletter articles to me by May 26th. The June Newsletter will go home with the students on June 1st .
MRS. MARTHA JACOBS, PRINCIPAL:
Thank you to everyone for a great school year. It has gone by fast, but there are still many things to come: Inflatables on Wednesday, May 17th, the Indians Game on Thursday, May 18th, Grandpals Day on Friday, May 19th , as well as the 8th Grade Washington trip, 8th Grade Graduation, and end-of -the year parties.
JIM HEFFNER, ATHLETIC REPRESENTATIVE:
CYO Baseball and Softball are underway. The rainy spring season has been tough to deal with and is causing many cancelled games. The teams are doing very well, and SJB has several undefeated teams. Uniform turn in is Wednesday, May 24th and the Sports Banquet has been scheduled for Friday, June 2nd.
MARY KAY JESTER, CHILDCARE-PRESCHOOL LIAISON & FRIENDS:
Preschool Summer Camp still has some openings. The preschool will be under the school umbrella next year and there are still some openings in the 3 & 4 year old classes. Everyone is busy getting ready for the move to the big school.
A sympathy card was sent to the Murphy family (Marissa, Gr.1)on the passing
of her grandmother; a sympathy card also sent to the Logan family (Matt,
Gr.7, and Joey, Gr.3) on the passing of their Great Grandmother. A
congratulations card was sent to the Benson family (Mackenzie, Gr.2, and
Morgan, Gr.1) on the birth of their little sister, Macy.
JUDY FILUT, COLLECTIVE FUND RAISING:
* Mrs. Cole’s 2nd Grade class won the April Box Tops Contest. They will be rewarded with a pizza party on Monday, May 22nd. 5,200 Box Tops were collected during the contest. * Giant Eagle Apples for the Students program has ended for the school year. The rewards, selected by the SJB staff, included playground balls and a digital camera.
KIM BALLASH & CHRISTINE BURNS, HOT MEAL:
Report given by Kim Ballash; 8th Graders will receive their McDonald’s Hot Meal a week early since they will be in Washington next week. Mrs. Jacobs added that this is the same day as their Godspell Cast/Pizza party, but that shouldn’t be a problem.
* Mary Ann Palko added how wonderful the Jr. High did with their performance
of Godspell, and how wonderful it was for Mrs. Kuntz to take on such a task,
and how exciting it was to see these children exposed to (and participating
in) this new magnitude of the Arts at SJB!
All PTU members agreed, and added similar comments.
ELAINE EDELBAUER & JULIE GOTRO, MEMBERSHIP:
Report given by Elaine Edelbauer; Nothing new to report on PTU Membership.
TRISH SCOTT, REFRESHMENTS:
We have 35 volunteers to bake, and 15 volunteers to set up for the May 21st reception after the special 11:30am Mass, paying tribute to our teachers and staff that will be leaving after this year.
Trish will get tablecloths. Other paper products to be used are left over
from previous PTU events. Drinks (coffee, milk, juice) will be decided this
week.
MICHELLE ZABKO & MARY LANDINO, ROOM PARENTS:
Report given by Mary Landino; A little more money has come in for the class parties. It will be distributed
RENEE WARREN, SCHOOL PROGRAMS:
Nothing new to report. Her school programs are finished for the year, and she is looking forward to next year.
THERESA KRAVANIS, SPIRITUAL ENRICHMENT:
Thank you to Debbie Hannan and Paula Stepanski for their help with the 2nd Grade School Mass. The left over donuts were taken to the teachers lounge; and just a note for the record...little kids don’t seem to like jelly in their donuts.
PAULA STEPANSKI, PRESIDENT:
* Thanks to all who volunteered for the many events this upcoming week; the Inflatables, Grandpals Day, and the 11:30am Mass on May 21st. * 8th Grade Scholarship winners have been chosen. The winners will be announced on Graduation Night, June 6, 2006. * 8th Grade Graduation gifts will be the SJB 2006 Photo Album. * No information or date yet available for the 1st & 8th Grade Pizza Party. * Mrs. Jacobs added that the last school mass is the last day of school, June 9, 2006. * Paula inquired, and Mrs. Jacobs confirmed that the 1st day of school in August will be a later start date, possibly August 30, 2006, due to the clean up & tear down of the International Festival. * PTU will again sponsor a booth at the International Festival. A volunteer sign up sheet was passed around for 1½ hour time slots. Paula suggested to make it a family affair & to let the kids help. They had a great time helping last year.
