St. John Bosco Stewardship Committee Meeting
August 8, 2007
The meeting was called to order and opened with prayer at 7:15 PM by committee
chairperson, Barbara Sekerak.
Committee members present were: Dave & Janet Fuente, John Budi, Ed Flegel, Jerry Bowers, Joyce Saunders, Jim & Barbara Sekerak. Not present due to a prior commitment was Ron Zupancic.
Prior to beginning the meeting, each member was asked to donate anonymously toward the Evangelization/Stewardship Chinese Raffle Basket for the Festival. The basket will be the car wash/gas card basket.
The goal for the meeting was to review the Stewardship Booklet for updates. It was agreed upon that Barbara would send an email to the ministry leaders/contact requesting the correct information for the booklet. If an email is not available for the ministry leader a letter will be sent. Barbara will also contact Kevin Skenzil of Diocesan Publications to verify the deadline for the booklet. Barbara also relayed Ron Zupancic’s suggestion about the booklet and the commitment cards.
A discussion ensued regarding the Stewardship Commitment Card. It was felt that the card should be in the booklet and additional commitment cards be available. The committee will contact the Finance Council to coordinate Stewardship Commitment Renewal of Time, Talent and Treasure. It was suggested that the booklets and cards be passed out at the masses giving the parishioners time to complete the cards. This would be similar to the Catholic Charities Appeal.
It was suggested that Fr. Dave send a letter to the ministry leaders requesting a current roster of the ministry members. This will be helpful when compiling the commitment card returns.
Stewardship plans also include recruiting a Lay Witness for the Stewardship Renewal Weekend(s). Dave Fuente offered the name of a possible recruit. He will check with the individual and let us know.
Dave Fuente informed us that the Evangelization Commission will be hosting a new parishioner luncheon every six months. The first one will be held Sunday September 30, 2007 at 1 pm in the activities center. The stewardship committee agreed we would be willing to assist them with the event.
Dave also asked for help with selling the raffle tickets for the Festival after the masses the next two weekends. The available committee members will be there to help.
Prior to closing the meeting, a discussion ensued on the Eucharistic ministers going to the nursing homes on Sundays be given a blessing prior to the EM’s leaving mass. Not only would the blessing be of spiritual benefit for the EM’s as they go forth with the Eucharist to those unable to attend mass but to those present at the mass to know that St John Bosco reaches out to the all of its members. This suggestion will be presented to Fr. Dave and the Eucharistic Ministers Committee.
The meeting concluded at 8:30 PM with prayer by Janet Fuente. Janet shared with us the Prayer of Jabez which the Evangelization Commission has adopted.
